Grace F. Rothstein

Grace Florence [Goodman] Rothstein of New Rochelle, New York passed away on July 1, 2017 after a long and interesting life. Born June 22, 1923, in Manhattan, Grace was the middle daughter of a physician, Alfred, and his wife Rose, a piano teacher.
Mrs. Rothstein was the widow of photojournalist Arthur Rothstein. Grace and Arthur married soon after they met, in 1947, and moved to Peter Cooper Village where Grace found work as a portrait photographer. The couple traveled widely, even after their four children, Robert, Ann, Eve, and Daniel were born.
The Rothsteins moved to New Rochelle, New York in 1956 and became sailors as well as avid year-round gardeners. Arthur often traveled on assignment for LOOK magazine and Grace managed the house, the kids and continued her photography career in a photo studio Arthur built for her behind the house. Soon Grace was the official photographer for the City of New Rochelle.
When her youngest child started school, Grace earned a degree in Special Education and thereafter taught at P.S. 94 in the Bronx, where she created her own curricula, incorporating her love for and knowledge of music, visual arts and gardening for eighteen years.
Since Arthur’s death in 1985 Grace dedicated herself to organizing her husband’s photographic archive. She also enjoyed visiting with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. A private service will be held in her memory.
