Harold Gillet

Harold Gillet, a resident of Cherry Hill Ct., and former longtime resident of New Rochelle, died on September, 12, 2017. He was 91.
Harold was born on November 27, 1925, in the Bronx to the late Sam and Eva Gillet. He was a self-employed Photographer who owned a studio for many years in the Bronx and in Irvington, NY. He served in the Navy during WWII. He was an active volunteer for Meal on Wheels; he served on the Board of Director for 25 years for the Renaissance Project (a Drug Rehab Facility) where he introduced legislation that provided all youth with proper education while in treatment. This became a model for the program to go nationwide. He was featured several times in the Journal News, most recently for flying a plane at 90 years old and as an advocate for seniors who were being displaced from the Esplanade Senior Facility. He supported his wife’s vocation which was Yoga, for over 50 years and donated all proceeds to charity. Together they raised over one hundred thousand dollars. He supported the Alzheimer’s Association out of respect for his wife.
He is survived by his wife the former Jaye Greenberg whom he married March 30, 1947; his 3 children: Donna (Charles) Paioff, Scott Gillet and Lawrence (Jane Maine de Biran) Gillet and his daughter-in-law Judy Joy Gillet; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Sylvia.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday September 14, 2017 at 1pm at George. Davis Funeral Home LLC, 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle, NY 10805. Interment will follow at Beth David Cemetery, Elmont, NY. The family will sit Shiva Thursday from 6-10pm and Friday from 1-7pm at the home of Lawrence Gillet and Saturday from 7-10pm at the home of Donna Paioff.
