Donald C. Watt, aged 75, was a lifelong resident of New Rochelle. He is predeceased by his mother Anne M. Watt (nee Beisgen) and his brother Kenneth Watt. Don is survived by his brother and sister-in-law George & Eleanor Watt, sister-in-law Ginger Watt and his daughter Katherine Watt (Christopher Smith). He also leaves behind nieces and nephew Stacey LaSorsa, Christine Geertgens, Amy Markowitz, Allyson Watt and Andrew Watt as well as his grand-dogs Molly and Murphy. Don will also be missed by his amazing friends who were a second family to him.
Don grew up in the Holy Name of Jesus parish and he married Karen Uckermark there. When their daughter was born, he was reconfirmed at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on the Council for several years, was active in the choir and remained an active member for the remainder of his life.
After high school, Don joined the Navy and was honorably discharged. He then entered the workforce as a bank teller, then a truck driver for Joyce Beverages until his back could no longer take the stress and then as a driver for Excel Limousine followed by James Limousine Service until his retirement. Before Mapquest and Google maps were a “thing”, if someone needed directions, they asked Don! He continued to enjoy driving in retirement…he would often drive an hour or more up 22 or 84, have lunch, then turn around to come home. But only if he didn’t have a good parking spot!
Don was a kind, generous and gentle man; a loyal friend who loved with his whole heart. In his younger years he enjoyed playing softball, riding roller coasters and bowling. He was an avid reader and in the spring and summer, enjoyed spending hours at Davenport Park reading underneath “his tree”.
A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in the Spring, date to be determined. To honor Don, please practice random acts of kindness, make a donation to your favorite charity, enjoy a bowl of ice cream and call someone you love at 10:00am on Saturday morning.
